Reverse The coin's reverse depicts a view of Perth consisting of a representation of a black swan on the Swan River, colour washed, with the city skyline of Perth in the background. Founded in 1829, the world's most isolated capital city lies close to the south-west corner of Western Australia. Its development was slow until the discovery of rich gold deposits inland at Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie in the 1890s. Gold, and the State's other mineral resources, have shaped a modern, dynamic city in close proximity to unspoiled Indian Ocean beaches and its greatest asset of all: the graceful Swan River. The design includes a black swan, an extraordinary sight to early European explorers such as Willem de Vlamingh, who named the future city's main waterway in 1697.

The long white beaches south of Brisbane became popular holiday destinations for well-heeled city dwellers at the end of the 19th century.
